Summer Villages on Sylvan Lake
Summer Villages are an institution in Alberta, nearly as old as the province itself. Traditionally evolved from cottage summer resort areas where seasonal residents wanted a role in local government or were dissatisfied with the level of service and taxation provided by their local municipality. There are now five Summer Villages on Sylvan Lake, Birchcliff (1972), Half Moon Bay (1978), Jarvis Bay (1986), Norglenwold (1965) and Sunbreaker Cove (1991) all sharing an administration office since 1991. Your Summer Village maintains bylaws to protect the watershed, water quality, bank and shoreline, flora and fauna of the natural setting in which we live. Lake access for near lake residents is via road allowances and environment open spaces which are to be left in their natural state.
