SEWER NOTICE:
Over the past few weeks we have seen a drastic drop in temperature. Due to this cold snap, we received notice from two properties who had issues with the check valves in their septic tanks. The valves froze, causing back flow into their tanks from the main line. Possible options to reduce the risk of this happening would be to make sure the septic tank lid seals the tank fairly well from cold air entering, getting an insulated septic tank lid, or installing heat trace on the lines and insulate the pipes.

Birchcliff also experienced a blockage in the main line last week. We were notified that nothing was flowing through the lift station. Immediately we had contractors flush the line. They let us know that the cause of this blockage was products flushed down the toilet that should not have been, such as q-tips, wet wipes, feminine products, and cooking grease. The grease sticks to the side of the pipes and causes things to stick. Although there is a grinder in the pump, products not designed to be flushed still won’t deteriorate properly, and get caught up in the pipes especially in the winter when there is less flowing through the lines. This causes backups which we have to flush out at considerable cost. All of this is to say please make sure you are not flushing anything that should not be flushed. Here is a list of non-flushables:  https://bouldenbrothers.com/what-not-to-flush-down-the-toilet/

As a result of the Annual Information Meeting and the Stantec "Birchcliff Road Speed Limit Evaluation" Council will be moving forward with speed reduction to 40 km/hr. There will also be planning of a fall campaign for next year to clean up the reserves. Thank you to everyone for your input and feedback and we look forward to seeing you next year!
